After some difficulties approaching Nome, it looks like fuel will be delivered to the city today from the tanker via hoses along the ice. The U.S. Coast Guard is keeping people off the sea ice, since the activity and the ships themselves could cause the ice to break up. And falling through into the Bering doesn’t sound very inviting.

The Coast Guard ship Healy actually has a webcam so you can view the activity! Just go here and choose the 2012 folder, then choose one of the last few pages of images to see daytime photos. It’s really cool.
