Moth Week without even trying

Every week is moth week! Or should be anyway. These underappreciated cousins of butterflies are just as important and beautiful as butterflies. Many of them are quite stunning. My friends and colleagues here in the Garden kindly invited me to go mothing last Friday evening at the Miami Zoo. The Zoo accommodated us in a piney woods area they own which is not normally open to the public. They also provided generators and huge lights. And you never know what will come to the light. In short, it was a blast!

Here’s a taste of what we found:

 

A big “thank you” for having me to all that attended from Miami-Dade Co., the MetroZoo (now ZooMiami) and Fairchild.
